About

Hi All!!!

So welcome to Mental Health Monday (MHM). This project was born out of Kayliegh and Amy's struggles with mental disorders which include Depression, Anxiety Disorders, Self Harm, Eating Disorders and much more. One day they summoned the courage to reveal their story to the world with no hesitations, as scary as it was they had amazing responses to their blog posts.

We believe that the stigma that has always been attached to mental illness needs to be shattered and for Kayliegh this stigma was what had kept her from telling the world sooner about her past. This stigma makes individuals feels like it is something that should be kept in the dark, but the truth is that we need more people willing to share their story with the world.

There are three girls that are involved so far with this Mental Health Monday project, Kayliegh; Amy; and Siobhan.

Amy
Amy has suffered from mental health issues for the past three years. She suffered from panic attacks and various anxiety disorders. Due to these she saw her personal life suffer dramatically. She sleeked help when she foind herself at rock bottom and was seen by three specialists and was treated with therapy and medications and is now in a good place in her life. She along with Kayliegh and Siobhan has been through different experiences, but has the same, so be proof that things can get better to a point where you can cope.

Kayliegh
Kayliegh has been diagnosed with depression, social anxiety disorder, bulimia and has participated in self injurious behavior since she was 16 years old. She is now 22 years old and  holds a BA Honors degree in Psychology and has gone in and out of counseling more times that she cares to remember. She kept her life a secret throughout the past six years with only a hand full of people knowing. Now she can see things through a different light as she has not only studied the disorders but she has also lived them and come through them.

Siobhan
Siobhan spent four months in a unit to help her cope with her OCD, depression, anxiety and self harm. She is now on a mission to help spread the word about the stigma associated with mental ilness and help to break it. She knows what it is like to be pushed into a clinic and be told when she could leave and she wants to help people understand before it gets that far for someone else.

Each person involved with this site have been to a dark place and have found something to hold on for, and that is to show that there should be no shame in going through something as hard as a mental illness. We are here to provide you with our experiences and how we came through them and our views on this topic.

We encourage everyone to get involved and fight the fear and share their story.
